Route is direct Taunton - Bristol - Birmingham - York - Durham - Chester-Le-Street. Alternatively Taunton - Paddington, underground to Kings Cross - York - Durham - Chester-Le-Street.
Air: Easyjet cheap flights from Lulsgate Bristol to Newcastle, frequent Metro from Airport to Gateshead, frequent 21 bus outside metro direct to Chester-Le-Street & cricket ground.
Cricket ground: Approx 20 minute walk from Butchers Arms to cricket ground, alternatively 5 minutes on 21 bus from just outside pub, to main road outside ground.
Breakfast available in the pub, alternatively a 10 minute walk down the hill you'll find Brenda's Cafe, for generous fried breakfast with tea / coffee for about £4.
Good selection of real ales. Lovely pub, very nice people, great home made food (very reasonable prices) and usually 5 real ales. Landlady Liz retiring after 43 years, 20 of which in the Butchers. Liz only considered passing the pub over to her barmaid (15 years at The Butchers) who promises to keep it the only traditional pub in Chester-le-Street!
Plenty of takeaways, with an Indian and a Chinese Restaurant at the bottom of the town.
